Currently, the exotic and unusual allure of the caves is the 460 metres of underground passages that form labyrinths, which are said to have a strange power. The caves have been dug over three generations, the entire labyrinth of caves is the handiwork of men. The caves are privately owned by Inese, who is the fourth generation to inherit them. The white sand of the caves was used for glass production in Ilguciems. The sand is as white and pure as sugar. The caves have a constant air temperature of +8 degrees all year round. The caves are home to bats in winter. The caves are home to eight species of bats, none of which hibernate undisturbed, only to leave in the spring to let tourists explore the labyrinths. People use the sand from the caves for healing purposes, to warm sore areas, as the sand has absorbed the benefits of sea salts. At a depth of 8 metres below the ground, we enter the Hall of Love, a favourite place for honeymooners. The flowers they leave in the sand of the caves last for months without water. The caves give the newlyweds supernatural strength for life. Next, we go to the Hall of Faith, where a strange feeling comes over us at the intersection of the caves.
